A small tree, branches dense, terete.
Leaves coriaceous, obovate or elliptic, rounded or obtuse at apex, obtuse or rounded or very short acuminate at base, 4–5 cm long, 2.5–3 cm broad, margins slightly revolute, midrib elevated on bothe surfaces, lateral veins 5–7 on each side of midrib; petioles short and stout, 2–3 mm long.
Flowers in terminal cymes, about 4 cm long and broad, branches opposite, stout, short and dense; flowers sessile; calyx-tube purplish, 5 mm long, 4 mm broad at apex, the limb nearly truncate; petals purple, connate in a calyptra, caducous; stamens numerous, in many series, filaments unequal, white, to 7 mm long; ovary with rather thick wall, 2-celled, several-ovuled; styles 5 mm long.
Fruit elliptic or obovoid, 2–3 cm long, 1.5 cm in diameter.
